Maribor:

The Slomškov Square

The Slomškov Square

Slomškov Square - One of the most beautiful squares in Maribor is located in the western part of the city, Slomškov Square. On this square there is a cathedral where the grave of the first Slovenian saint is located and a bell tower that is 57 meters high and offers a wonderful view of the city. The historical buildings surrounding the square are the Rector's building of Maribor University, the Slovenian National Theater and the main building of the Maribor Post Office. The square was named after bishop Martin Slomsek, whose statue is located in the park on the square. This square was called Kirhemplatz after the church of St. John the Baptist, which is located there, then Table Square, and since 1919 it has had its current name.

Here there is a fountain with a statue named Korlek. The town cemetery used to be located on the square around the church, and most of the graves have been preserved to this day. A Roman statue of a reclining lion dating back to the second century BC is located next to the church. In the building where the post office is located, there used to be a hospital, a theater, and today there is a memorial plaque that testifies to that.

Certainly, this is a place where everyone likes to stay and is one of the most important places for every visitor because it is here that some of the most important buildings are located
