Maribor:

The Vetrinje Palace

The Vetrinje Palace

Vetrinjski dvor is mentioned as one of the first civil houses in Maribor, around 1222. According to some claims, it is considered to be from the 14th century. It was built in the late Baroque style, and it attracts attention with its appearance already at first glance. The court is located in a beautiful location, at the beginning of Vetrinjska street, under Grajsko trg, in the very center of the city across from the Maribor castle. Until 1709, it belonged to the Vetrinje monastery, while another part was added to the city walls in the ownership of the Breuner count family. The graves of the Breuner and Rabatta families are located here.

In one period, the palace served as a city theater between 1785 and 1806. The owners changed, while in the 19th century the building belonged to the then bourgeoisie - rich craftsmen used it for their own purposes. Tanner Alojz Nasko was the last owner of the building, after the Second World War.

Thanks to the funds of the European Union, in the period between 2007 and 2010 the building was renovated, and in 2012 it served as the seat of MARIBOR 2012 - the European Capital of Culture (2010-2013). Today, the building hosts various exhibitions, events and performances. Here you can hear good music all year round. Today, it also houses the Wetrisnky cafe, where you can enjoy coffee and refreshments.
