History Miami Museum. History Miami Museum was established from a need to preserve, carry over and explore the history of Miami. This magnificent museum is located downtown Miami, and it is the biggest museum of such kind in Florida. It expands on 6.500m2. It tells a story about places and people, how they lived, and it all affects the future of the city. It was accredited by the American Alliance of Museums in 1979.
Owing to works of art, documents, various collections and exhibited items, you will get to know everything about Miami and its history. In 1940, the Historical Museum of Southern Florida was established which founded the Historical Museum of Florida. After 22 years, the museum was relocated in the Miami-Dade Cultural Center. The museum was renamed HistoryMiami museum on its 70th anniversary in 2010.
The museum is over 37.000 3D artefacts which cover all stages of Miami’s history, as well as over a million historical paintings and photographs. In addition to permanent exhibitions, there are also temporary exhibitions which are of significant importance for the community. One of the permanent exhibitions is named Tropical Dreams which examines the people and their history of South Florida. There are many additional events in the museum, and of the most visited among them is the annual Miami International Map Fair in February.

The museum is closed on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
