The Perez Art Museum is a modern and contemporary art museum which has a permanent exhibition of collections from the 20th and 21st century, which is usually displayed on the first and second floor. In addition to permanent exhibitions, the museum also has temporary exhibitions. The gallery with permanent exhibitions depicts Miami’s diverse community. There is also a restaurant in the museum – it is called Verde, located on the beach, and there is also a gift shop where you can buy hand-made accessories and other items, and what will for sure amaze you is the magnificent view of the bay.
The museum aims to be the leader in presenting, exploring and nourishing international modern and contemporary art, and to depict the unique diversity of Miami-Dade. It encourages human interaction and communication through art. The museum was established in 1984 as the Center for the Fine Arts, but it soon became the Miami Art Museum. This is the first modern art museum in Miami that aims to enrich the artistic expression of this ‘young’ city.
The museum developed over time, and in 2013 it moved in to a new address in Museum Park. It was then renamed Jorge M. Pérez Art Museum of Miami-Dade County, and it expands on 200.000m2 in Biscayne Bay. It was designed by Herzog & de Meuron. Here, ideas are exchanged and fitting conversations are held, appreciating art and its creative spirit. The citizens of Miami will say that they are proud to have this museum in their city, and rightfully so. The architecture is well-designed, it is unique and modern, surrounded by greenery, it has important works of art – it absolutely complements Miami’s lifestyle. Museum Park surrounding the museum is well decorated, we recommend taking a walk there. You will for sure encounter some works of art in the museum that meet your perspective of art. Ever since the relocation, the museum is one of the most visited in Miami.
