Collins Avenue is the main thoroughfare in South Florida. It runs just by the ocean, and it was named for John Collins, a developer who, in 1913, completed Miami’s first bridge, Collins Bridge, connecting Miami Beach to the mainland across Biscayne Bay. The avenue is 21km long. It is a counterpart to New York’s Fifth Avenue. There is a long pedestrian zone by the beach and ocean, with numerous cafés, restaurants and night clubs.
Along the palm trees line with a few Art Deco hotels, many of them were built in the period between 1950 and 1960, such as “Eden Roc” or Fontainebleau” hotels. When taking a walk on the avenue, you will be able to see designer shops, gift shops and get familiar with Miami lifestyle. The Miami International Boat Show is held on Collins Avenue. It is impossible to visit Miami and not go to Collins Avenue
