Miami:

The Holocaust Memorial Miami Beach

The Holocaust Memorial Miami Beach

The Holocaust Memorial in Miami Beach was established in the memory of victims and survivors of the Holocaust. It pays respect to 6 million Jewish victims under Nazi terror before and during the World War 2. The monument was designed by Kenneth Treister. The idea was developed in 1984 by a small group of Holocaust survivors, and it was open to the public on 4 January, 1990.

The monument is surrounded by 100 sculptures, a garden and a memorial wall. The center sculpture in is a giant hand reaching the sky, surrounded by dozens of people crawling and asking for help. The giant hand stands for love and hardships. Silence dominates the site, and the sculptures are genuine to that extent that you would wish you were able to help them. The contrast between history and silence creates an emotional moment. You should definitely not miss this site when visiting Miami.

There are also info panels with photos that give more insight into this sad moment in history. Entrance is free, and it is considered an amazing tourist attraction in Miami. It is a memory of an event that cannot be forgotten.

You can visit the monument every day from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
