New York City:

The Halloween

The Halloween

Halloween originates in the USA, and for the last couple of years Europeans celebrate it as well. October 31 is the date when the whole of America puts on a costume. New York has a special Halloween parade. It is believed that many Halloween traditions were influenced by Celtic harvest festivals, which are believed to have pagan roots. Even though it is celebrated just days before All Hollows’ Day, Halloween is not a part of Christian canon.

Buildings in Manhattan, streets and houses outside of the city center are decorated with carved pumpkins and candles, as well as with costumes for a scarier atmosphere. Halloween is exceptional in any part of New York. This is a big "horror party", and before this parade, costumes are sold on every corner. You can encounter ghosts, witches, goblins or anything else that imagination may offer. The atmosphere in cafés and restaurants is also different, and are decorated in accordance with this, for Americans, special day. Children collect sweets from households and buildings followed by the familiar words “Trick or Treat”, and there is a nationwide celebration on the streets.
