Saint Patrick’s Day is celebrated on 17 March. The parade goes through Fifth Avenue. The parade that is more than 1.000 years old celebrates Irish heritage. This is considered the liveliest holiday in the city. It is not only celebrated in Ireland, but everywhere where there are Irish communities. The legend says that St. Patrick brought Christianity to Ireland in the 5th century, and that he was British-born. Pirates sold him as a slave when he was a child. He built many churches in his lifetime. The legend also says that St. Patrick also banished all snakes from Ireland and that is why there are no snakes there today.

The symbols St. Patrick’s Day and the holiday itself is a four-leaf clover and the color green – the clover represents the arrival of spring. Irish families to go church that morning, and they spend the afternoon dancing and singing. Many Americans have accepted this holiday as their own as well, so it is widely celebrated on the city streets with music, green costumes, Irish hats and lots of beer.

Exactly at midnight, when the clock hands tick 00:00 followed with fireworks, Americans and other visitors enter New Year with best wishes and thoughts. Then comes the wide celebration and the New Year's Eve from Times Square is broadcast all over the world.
