The Thanksgiving Parade

The Thanksgiving Parade

Thanksgiving is an important day for all Americans. Even though it is special for New York, other states, countries and cities also celebrate it. It has been a tradition for more than 90 years in the US, and children love it. Main attractions is the Thanksgiving Day parade with big balloons with pictures of cartoon characters. With music, dancing, singing and large balloons, New Yorkers and many other guests parade through the streets of New and remind themselves what they are thankful.

Thanksgiving Day dates back to the first English settlers – they wanted to establish a day when they will express their gratitude for their new home and the fact that they had settled in America. Thanksgiving celebration was established back in 1789 by the proclamation of the first president, George Washington. The Congress passed the decision. In 1941, president Roosevelt signed an official proclamation establishing Thanksgiving as a national holiday celebrated on the last Thursday in November.
