The Metropolitan Museum of Art of New York City is one of the most significant and largest museums in the US. It has exhibitions from all over the world, and it may also be the first museum you should visit in New York. The magnificent building attracts passers-by and visitors with its beauty every day with. The significance and size of the museum can be reflected in the exhibits - two million items divided into 17 exhibition spaces. The museum consists of two buildings – the main building located in Central Park and a smaller building located in Upper Manhattan where Medieval art is exhibited. It is considered the biggest art gallery. Exhibits from Europe, ancient Egypt, the Mediterranean and the USA, Africa, Asia, Islam art items and many others are displayed in the museum.

The museum was established in 1870 – many business men and artists took part in the establishing of the museum with the aim to present art in best possible manner for citizens, as well as to encourage the development of fine arts, its implementation in manufacturing and everyday life, and to knowledge regarding art in general. It was opened in 1872 on Fifth Avenue, but the space was not enough, so it was moved through years. Its current location is the third one since the opening. The museum was also renovated on the 100th anniversary.
Many great artists are presented in the museum, such as El Greco, Francisco Goya, Vincent Van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Wassily Kandinsky and many others. In addition to permanent exhibitions, the museum holds temporary exhibitions and thus often replenishes the with new rare items and works. The museum represents the link between today's and former culture and art through various events.
