The Central Park Zoo

If you are animal lovers, you must visit the Central Park Zoo – come and meet the animal kingdom! The Central Park Zoo is the oldest zoo in the USA, located in Manhattan. It was opened back in 1861. The Wildlife Conservation Society took over the management of the park under a contract with the city of New York in the 1980s. Renovation costs amounted to 35 million dollars. Construction works lasted for almost 5 years – among other things, cages were replaced with open natural habitats in order to make the animal feel more comfortable. The park was reopened back in 1988.

The zoo is opened throughout the whole year. It is divided in three areas – tropical, moderate and polar. There you will see a grizzly bear, a leopard, different tropical birds, cute penguins, see lions and various wild animals that are housed in Manhattan.

Within the main Zoo there is a small children zoo called Tisch. Children may see sheep, ducks, cows and many other animals there. The Zoo’s main goal is to educate visitors on animals and their living conditions, as well as to show how the Zoo protects its animals. It stretches on 6.5 hectares of land, and it as a part of a system consisting of four zoos and an aquarium managed by the Wildlife Conservation Society. Visiting the Zoo is an everlasting experience.
