New York City:

The George Washington Bridge

The George Washington Bridge

The George Washington Bridge is on the Hudson River, connecting Manhattan, Washington Heights in New York and Fort Lee in New Jersey. It was named after the first president of the USA – George Washington. It is considered one of the most the busiest bridges in the world. Even though the idea of building a bridge was conceived in 1906, the construction works did not begin before 1927 and lasted until October 1931 when the bridge was officially opened.

This suspension bridge has two levels with 14 traffic lanes in total. Speed limit is 72km/h. Pedestrians and cyclists can also cross the bridge. The bridge is 1.450 meters long and has a span of 1.100 meters, making it one of the bridges with longest span. Depending if you are driving east or west, the bridge offers a beautiful view of the Hudson River – the view of million dollars, and a stroll would take approximately 30 minutes, depending on your tempo.
