The United Nations building

The United Nation’s Headquarters is located in eastern Manhattan, and ever since its construction in 1952, it has been one of the most significant New York’s buildings. Its known for its height pf 154 meters, standing flags, monuments and surrounding buildings. It overlooks the East River and the busiest train station – Grand Central Terminal. The complex consists of three buildings – the Secretariat, the General Assembly and Dag Hammarskjöld Library.

Designer team for the headquarters consisted of world-renowned architect led by the American architect Wallace K. Harrison. The team was set up by the countries that were members of the United Nations back then. There were 50 design proposals.

The thirty-nine-story Secretariat building is a modern building today, although it did not seem so at the time it was built. The costs amounted to 65 million dollars, fully financed by the US government.
A tour with a tourist guide around the building costs $22. Take a closer look in the building and you will see how the Council’s meeting hall looks like, you will see the General Assembly as well. In addition to that, you will learn something from history and get to know more about the UN affairs. There are many works of art exhibited in the building, gifted by member countries. Many great names have walked in the UN building – what stops you from doing so?
