Botanical Garden of the University of Ljubljana will provide the walk you have always dreamed of! The Ljubljana Garden is visited by many tourists and locals and is one of the most attractive parks in this city. The Botanical Garden was founded in 1810 and has remained the same to this day. It is the oldest garden in Southeast Europe. The initiators of the founding of the botanical garden were the then mayor of Ljubljana, Marshal August Marmont, and the first director, Frank Chladnik. One fine detail of the garden is a linden tree that the mayor planted at that time and it still adorns the garden today.
The garden has been managed by the State University since 1920, and thus the Botanical Garden became the Department of Biology of the faculty of the same name. It is a wonderful feeling to walk through the green areas of the park, breathe its fresh air and be surrounded by all these plants. An experience you will remember.
It covers an area of 2 hectares, and has over 4.5 thousand plants with beautifully landscaped walking paths. A variety of plants make the garden attractive and difficult to skip when you are in Ljubljana. You can see rare species of plants here.
The botanical garden has nine parts, one of which is intended for medicinal plants. There is also an artificial waterfall in the garden that looks astonishing.
If you want to buy a souvenir, you have a shop intended for all visitors to the Ljubljana Garden.
