Another very important landmark for Ljubljana is the Franciscan Church! The Franciscan Church, also called the Church of the Assumption of Mary, is located on Prešeren Square in the center of Ljubljana and is one of the symbols of this city. This building is the most visited in Ljubljana due to its external and internal appearance.
It was built sometime between 1646 and 1660, in the early Baroque style, with one nave and two chapels. The main altar inside the church is the work of sculptor Francesco Robba, and the frescoes were done by Mateja Sternen. Noticed by its appearance, the delicate red color makes Prešeren Square even more lively. There is the Franciscan monastery with a beautiful garden next to this red church. Old books (incunabula) are kept in the old library in this monastery, which is enriched with over 70.000 copies.
Entrance to the church is FREE
