Križanke

Križanke is a significant architectural landmark of Ljubljana! It is a summer theater and a former monastery of the German Knights of the Cross, which was built in the 13th century. In 1952, this place was transformed into a summer stage, so it became one of the most important cultural places in Ljubljana.

This theater accommodates 1.500 people, hosts various types of concerts and events which are held as part of the Ljubljana Festival. This building was renovated by the architect Plečnik, which was also his last work. There is a monument to Napoleon's Illyrian provinces next to Križanke on the square. The architect was inspired by Renaissance architecture for the renovation of this magnificent building. There is a small church of Mary Help of Christians within this building, built by the then leading Venetian architect Domenico Rossi (1715).
