The Robba fountain

The Robba fountain

It is not only Rome that has its famous fountain! One of the most famous fountains is located in Ljubljana as well, and it is the perfect Robba Fountain! The fountain of the three rivers, as it is often called, is made of white marble and looks magnificent. Good photos are definitely taken here. Three Carniolan rivers that are represented on this fountain are Sava, Krka and Ljubljanica. It is the work of Francesco Robba, created in 1751, made in the Rococo style and located in front of the City Hall or the Magistrate.

The inspiration for the creation of the fountain was found in Rome. Francesco is an Italian sculptor. He almost went bankrupt while making the fountain because he was investing in expensive material and making the fountain itself was a long process. Fountain had small changes to itself. Jože Plečnik added stairs to it after the earthquake in 1895.

However, the biggest reconstruction of the fountain happened between 1979 and 2006 when the original fountain was transferred to the National Gallery, and its replica was placed in the same place, of the same size and material.
