Maribor's main square is the second largest square in the city, and occupies the central place of the Maribor urban zone. This square is very old, it is mentioned as far back as the 14th century, and from then until the 20th century, the square was the main place for selling various products.
In the middle of this sunny square is the "Sign of Mary" monument, which symbolizes the end of a great disease - the plague, which reigned in the 17th century. This monument was erected on the square in 1681, and its builder was Jožef Straub. Architecturally, one of the most beautiful and perhaps the most significant houses in Maribor adorns the main square. There is the Town Hall from the 16th century, built in the Renaissance style, the Aloysius Church and the former casino. Here is also the building that once housed the first Maribor brewery. And you can also see the coat of arms on the house that was an old pharmacy, when there were no pharmacies in major European cities, owned by pharmacist Franz Minarik.
This square is the main place from which all the main tourist tours in Maribor start, it is a gathering place for locals and a place where people usually drink coffee and enjoy the sun or go shopping in small shops. They say that the most beautiful point in Maribor is actually its central point, i.e. MAIN SQUARE. The square, which has been a market square since the historical days, which it has kept to this day, but not every day.
