Maribor Park is located north of the city of Maribor. The size of this park is 54 hectares. It is one of the most popular places in Maribor, intended for rest, sports and entertainment. All generations, children, pensioners, students come and happily spend their time here. What, in addition to greenery and the chirping of birds, adorns this park are children's playgrounds, an aquarium, and a romantic part of the park where concerts and shows are held during the summer, the so-called Pavilion. The basic shape of the park was created a long time ago, back in the Middle Ages, thanks to the ponds and the river bed.
Since the Middle Ages, the park has been rich in rows of walnut and chestnut trees. There was even a lake there. Back in 1879, this park was renovated for the first time. Today, the park is divided into 4 parts named Gardskipark, Kalvarija, Tribare and Piramida. Prak is decorated with over 100 types of trees, where conifers dominate. Vines also grow in the area called Calvary and Pyramid. Here is the so-called solitary tree, which was planted 2000 years ago. The height of this tree is 3 meters, and its crown is 2 meters wide. There are two important monuments in the park, one is to the fallen fighters for the northern border of Slovenia, and the other is a monument to the May Declaration, which during the First World War destroyed Slovenian statehood.
The city aquarium is located in a building that was built in 1920. This aquarium is one of the most famous aquariums in southern and central Europe. It is very richly equipped and is gladly visited by both tourists and the local population of Maribor. At a height of 348m above the park, there is a lookout point Mestni vrh and Piramide. A water reserve used to be located here, from which the whole of Maribor was supplied. Small elevations, landscaped walking paths, viewpoints, ponds are all what make this park unique and the most visited in Maribor.
