The Old Bridge

The Old Bridge

Old Bridge - There's something about those old bridges. The past comes to mind and while we look at them, they calm our mind, and at the same time we think about who all walked on that bridge, who all met on it. Looking at the Old Bridge in Maribor, we realize how nice it is to be in this city. Although the official name is Stari most, it has also had names such as the State bridge and the Main bridge. It is located on the Drava River, so it is often called the Drava Bridge. Spona is between Kruška Street and Pobrežje. It is of metal construction and consists of three steel arches. The length of the bridge is 270m, the central part is 166m long.

It represents one of the more popular sights of Maribor. The bridge can be seen from certain beautiful places, such as the view from the Maribor City Hotel. But the view of the city from the bridge is also very attractive, stand in the middle of the bridge and take advantage of the beautiful scenery of the old city for a photo. It was built in 1913, and on August 23 of the same year, it was dedicated to traffic. Although it suffered some damage during the Second World War, it was later restored and returned to the condition it was in before. Works on the bridge were recorded in 1990 and 1998. The architect of the bridge was Eugen Fassabender. In the evening, the bridge is illuminated, which gives it a magical touch, especially during holidays.
