New York City:

The Chrysler Building

The Chrysler Building

The Chrysler Building is yet another landmarks of New York, it is often seen in movies, on posters and postcards. It is considered the ‘gentleman’ among New York’s skyscrapers, thus Manhattan could not be imagined without it. When tourists see the building, due the odd tower on the top, they wonder if it is possible to go to the top and enjoy the view, as is the case with other skyscrapers in New York.

The building is 319 meters high, and in the period from 1930 to 1931 it used to be the highest building in the world. Even though it officially is not the highest building in the world, it is the highest brick-building with steel foundation. On 19 September, 1928 the foundation was set, and New York’s skyscraper was built four floors a week. The Chrysler was officially opened to public on 27 May, 1930.
The skyscraper follows the Art Deco style, and the tower was built from parts used for the manufacture of Chrysler vehicles. The 61st-floor is adorned with eagles which are models from Chrysler’s car hoods from 1929. The Chrysler’s lobby, a large architectural work of art, is open from 08 AM to 6.PM. Entrance is free.

The rest of the building is office space, so tourists and visitors are not allowed to enter. The building used to have its own vantage point, but unfortunately it does not exist today.
