New York City:

The Coney Island

The Coney Island

Coney Island is New York’s residential and business neighborhood, but also entertainment area that New Yorkers gladly visit. It is located in southwest Brooklyn. By the beginning of the 20th century, this island turned into a peninsula (even though it has been called Island to this day), and it became connected with Long Island. In the 19th century, the Coney Island area became a resort area, and many amusement parks were built by the end of the same century.

Amusement parks reach the peak in popularity during the 20th century, but it declined following the end of the World War II when many of them were demolished. Coney Island has about 32.000 citizens and it belongs to the Brooklyn borough. Besides being a big amusement park for both the young and adults, this area is also a big urban beach with slides, amusement centers and numerous American food, drink and nightlife attractions.

There are two famous beaches – Manhattan Beach and Brighton Beach.
