The Madison Square Garden

Madison Square Garden or simply MSG is the most famous indoor arena located in the heart of New York. It is the third most sold-out arena in the world. Many significant games have been played there – both in NHL and NBA. Many sporting and musicals events have been held there. There are over 300 events in the Garden annually. Martial arts, such as box and wrestling also attract a large number of fans throughout the year. The “Fight of the Century” between Muhammad Ali and Joe Fraser took place in Madison Square Garden in 1971. The Ringling Circus comes every year to the Garden, alongside many events on ice, dog shows and other city events.

Madison Square Garden was officially opened in 1879, and after that many Madison Garden arenas were opened – the one we know today is the fourth located in western Manhattan, opened back in 1968. The arena is of circular shape, it amazes almost every fan and it has a unique ceiling that contributes to its originality. It is considered one of the best modern buildings. It was renovated in 1991, the costs amounted up to $200 million dollars.

Historical events are held there. The arena hosted three National Democratic Conventions and one Republican National Convention, as well as the visit of pope John Paul II (1979) and pope Francis (2015). Many famous music stars have held concerts on Madison Square Garden’s stage: Elvis Presley, The Who, John Lennon, the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Madonna, Elton John, Stevie Wonder and many others.

Back in 2010, Michael Jackson’s concert from 1988 was chosen the best concert ever held in the Garden, while Elton John has the most concerts there – 60.
If you are in New York during some event in MSG – be sure to pay it a visit. Everything is amazingly organized, and the experience is unforgettable. The energy during a sport events or a music concert is unmatched.
