New York City:

The Plaza Hotel

The Plaza Hotel

The Plaza Hotel is a historical luxurious hotel building, opened in 1907. It is located on the southeastern part of Central Park, and on the west of Fifth Avenue. Henry Janeway, the architect, found inspiration for the building in castles and French renaissance. The Plaza was designated a New York City landmark in 1969, and it was wadded to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. The hotel’s interior became a New York’s landmark in 2005. Initial construction works on The Plaza began in 1883. However, due to a shortage of funds, the hotel was demolished in 1905. It was 2 years later that the hotel we know today was built.

The hotel’s first guest upon opening on 1 October, 1907 was Alfred Vanderbilt. A night in the hotel cost $2.5 which translates to $70 today. The hotel went on to became extremely popular, both for spending a night there and for its restaurant. Several owners have changed over time, and the price has always been in millions of dollars. Among others, Donald Trump bought the hotel for 390 million dollars in 1988 and said then: “I did not buy a building, I bought a work of art”.

The hotel’s interior is movie-like, and many popular movies have been filmed there, such as “Home Alone”. In addition to being movie-like, it is also royally luxurious, elegant and rich – from rooms to the lobby where you can, even if you are not a guest, have a cup of tea or coffee, or a glass of some fine wine. Prices, of course, are significantly higher than in any other hotel, but in the end – this is the historical hotel The Plaza.
