The Public Library

The New York Public Library is the second largest public library in the US, and third in the world, right behind the British library. This library has branches in Manhattan, Bronx and Staten Island, and it is also connected with academic and professional libraries in New York.

The library is open for public. There are also four research libraries that are also open for public. The New York library has a collection with more than 53 million books. John Jacob Astor bequeath $400.000 in his will for the creation of public library. Following his death in 1848, the construction works soon began. Besides its wealth in items and exhibits, the Library is also a magnificent architectural work of art.
