Vienna:

The Shonbrunn Palace

The Shonbrunn Palace

Visiting Vienna and not going to the Schonbrunn Palace would be just like visiting Paris, but not seeing the Eiffel Tower. One of the greatest attractions of Vienna is this building established by Austrian emperors. The Schonbrunn was the residence of the Habsburg dynasty from XVIII century up until 1918. The Schonbrunn was created when Emperor Maximilian II built a summer house on this place in XVI century, in whose surroundings there was a hunting area. Many ducks, pheasants, deer and boars could be seen there. In XVII century, this area was named Schonbrunn, which means- a place from which the water for the palace was brought.

At the end of XVII century, Emperor Josip I renewed the palace and thus it became the residence of Austrian monarchs. The palace was built in the baroque style and its architects were Johann Bernhard Fischer and Nicolaus Pacassi. Next to the palace, there is a magical French park built with a labyrinth which was planted there in XVII century. In the huge palace garden, there is a triumphal arch “The Gloriette”, built during the reign of Maria Theresa, which is devoted to the power of Austrian monarchs. When the Austro-Hungarian Empire collapsed, the palace Schonbrunn was converted into a museum.

In 1961, two great presidents met in the Schonbrunn- Kennedy and Khrushchev. In 1996, along with the beautiful park, the palace was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The palace is magnificent, both on the outside and the inside. How lavishly Austrian monarchs lived is what you can see yourself when visiting this palace.
