The Church of the Holy Trinity

The Cathedral of the Holy Trinity - The oldest Christian church in Mostar, built in 1873, and was one of the symbols of the city of Mostar. This Orthodox church is located in Brankovac and is dedicated to the Holy Trinity. The Holy Trinity Cathedral was built in the period from 1863 to 1873. Part of the money for its construction was given by Sultan Abdul Aziz, the second part of the money was donated from Tsarist Russia and the third part was collected by the people themselves.

The temple has a basilica base, with small and few openings, an upgrade of the Byzantine style with six unequal domes on high glazed tambourines, which illuminated the interior. The bell tower was built in the Baroque style, attic with Gothic and Oriental spikes. Inside the church, there are rich gilded carvings and an imposing altar with 44 icons. At the entrance of the church is a large three-part gate made by the architect Momir Korunović in the expressionist style. The cathedral was completely destroyed in 1992 (at the beginning of the civil war) and the reconstruction began in 2010.
