Kranjska Gora

Kranjska Gora is a small town at 806 meters above sea level and is the center of the municipality of the same name. This is one of the most polar winter resorts in Slovenia and outside of it. Tourists from all over Europe and local tourists from Slovenia, fans of skiing and all winter sports, enjoy spending their winter vacation in the snow on Kranjska Gora.

About 2000 people live in this small mountain town. It is located on the border of Slovenia, Croatia and Austria, and is a very attractive destination for trips to the Alps. Located two hours' drive from Maribor, this place looks like a fairy tale, especially in winter. On Kranjska gora there is a famous ski jump, Planica, which is also an Alpine valley, which lies below the Ponce mountain. This popular and natural ski jump was created by the action of the glacier.

Once a year, a ski jumping competition called the World Cup is held on Planica. Slovenians call this ski jump Velikanka. The Planica ski jump record is held by Jorn Einar. In 2005, he jumped 239 meters, breaking the world record. The old ski jump named Bloutkova is located next to the Planica ski jump, and it was built in 1936. Stanko Bloutk from Austria is the first man in the history of this sport to jump longer than 100m.

On the road that leads from Kranjska Gora to the Vršič settlement, there is a Russian chapel. In the forest on the road called the Russian Road, at 1100 meters above sea level, there is a chapel built entirely of wood with two domes in the Baroque style. This chapel is dedicated to female military prisoners from Russia who during the First World War were building this road and on that occasion died due to a snow avalanche. The construction of the chapel began in 1915 in March and was completed the following year. 110 workers and seven guards lost their lives here. The Russian road is the road that leads from Kranjska Gora to the chapel. The Jurish to Vršič cycling race takes place along this Russian road.

On Kranjska gora, there are numerous private and hotel accommodations and a spa center, as well as warm and comfortable restaurants that only give this small place even more flavor.
