Empire State Building is a famous New York skyscraper 443 meters high with 102 floors. It was designed by Shreve, Lamb & Harmon, and it was finished in 1931. New York City’s nickname is Empire State, and the building was named after it. In the period between 1931 and 1972, the Empire State Building was the world’s highest building. Currently it’s at 28th place. This skyscraper can be seen from any part of New York, and it is the most famous landmark in the city.
The skyscraper’s construction began on 17 March, 1930, and it was relatively fast – one floor a day on average. Eighty-six floors were finished after 6 months of construction. The mast was finished on 21 November. The Empire State Building was officially opened on 1 May, 1931. Ever since the beginning of construction works, it became a famous tourist spot, with almost 4 million visitors annually. It offers the most beautiful view of the city, and when the sky is clear, the view riches 130 kilometers in distance. The 86th floor is the largest open space in the city, and it offers a magnificent view of Manhattan that will leave you speechless. Many world famous movies were filmed on this very floor. The queue is always a long one, and you may wait an hour to visit that floor. The elevator takes only 20 seconds to get you to the 86th floor. There are also put binoculars, so you have a chance to see the city in more details from high above. The 102nd floor is often closed.
