Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park

Enjoy the nature or come to see the lighthouse in Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park. It is one of the prettiest parks is located just 15 minutes from downtown Miami, on the southern tip of Key Biscayne. The park is an ideal spot for family gatherings and hanging out, and in addition to the well-decorated park, there is also a beach which leaves the visitors speechless. It is also in top 10 Miami’s best beaches.

The park is also known for the lighthouse that was built in 1825, it has 109 steps from bottom to top and a magnificent view of the Atlantic Ocean. The lighthouse is about 200 years old, and as such it is the oldest building in this part of Miami. Bill Bagss Park is a place for picnicking, fishing, taking a walk, and relaxing. You can also rent a bike and ride it on a lane that is 2.4 kilometers long. You can also rent a canoe or kayak. There are also restaurants in the park – some of them are specialized in fish dishes, as well as other meat dishes, barbecue, sandwiches, salads etc.

The park was named after the editor of The Miami News, Billy Baggs. He was one of few people who promoted Afro-Americans’ civil rights during the 1950s and 60s. He worked to protect the land from development and to preserve some of the key in its natural state.
