The Matheson Hammock Park

The Matheson Hammock Park

Matheson Hammock Park will make an impression on you like no park before. You will love the paradise beach and the green oasis. This is the most popular park in Miami-Dade country, and it is located on a peninsula in Biscayne Bay. It was opened in 1930, and it expands on 630 hectares of coastal land. It was named after William L. Matheson who donated the land to Miami-Dade county, wishing to preserve wild and natural beauty.

It has perfectly decorated green spaces designed by landscape architect William L. Philips, who also designed the Botanical Garden in Florida. It offers one of the most beautiful views of Biscayne Bay – green forests will calm you while breathing in fresh air, and the general atmosphere in the park is quite relaxing.

There is an atoll pool in the park that is perfect for children, located along the beach and surrounded by sand, limestone, and it offers a fascinating view of Florida’s coastline. The park has bike lanes, barbecue and picnic areas, and a playground for children in the center of the park. In the northern part of the park where the port is located, you can learn how to drive a speed boat or to rent it. You can also rent surf boards, kayaks, canoes or simply enjoy fishing. You should definitely not miss the beach are with fine white sand. Pick you spot under the sun and enjoy the nature around you. The beach is also suitable for families with small children because the water is not deep and it is perfect for all ages.

There is also a restaurant in the park which is called Coral Gables – it is a perfect place to have dinner. The restaurant was opened in 2019 – it is new and modern. It serves seafood. The ambience is beautifully decorated, and the terrace allows you to enjoy the view with a glass of fine wine. Red Fish Grill used to be located here, but unfortunately – hurricane Irma destroyed it. There is a tropical vibe that you are going to love!

Parking always available, costs $5 during weekdays, $6 on weekends.
