Skadar Lake:

The Virpazar

The Virpazar

Virpazar is a place on Skadar Lake from which all tourist tours on the lake start. A place that has one shop, two restaurants, a pier and locals who live and work there. Virpazar was once known by the name of vir, in time it became the trade center of Skadar Lake, where people went to the market (market) to buy fish. Thus the place vir is today called virpazar. In 1908, Virpazar got a railway that passes by the place and which connected this town with the rest of Montenegro. During the summer, Virpazar is very popular, but also during the festival that takes place there in January. It is a wine and bleak festival, where fish is prepared on the spot and distributed free of charge. With great fish, wine and music, fun is guaranteed.

In 1941, in the then occupied Europe, one of the most important uprisings in Montenegro began in Virpazar - July 13 is one of the most important dates for Montenegro, it is the Montenegrin national holiday and statehood day. Visitors will surely enjoy the beauties of Virpazar as well as the entire offer of Skadar Lake.
